After some last minute pitch preparations by the hosts we were ready to begin. After losing the toss we were put into bat. With the sight of the short boundary’s it was obvious that many eyes would light up with intensions of smashing the leather off the ball, Richie and Roy to mention a couple.
Tuffers saw off the first 5 balls adding a well struck 4 to his tally but fell to one that kept low and was bowled by the final ball of the first over.
Hopeful Naresh strode to the wicket with confidence only to be dismissed LBW for 0. The day looked over before it began as skipper Nigel held out to a fielder in the covers and new man Gill out after making a swift 11.
Things were not looking good at 32-4 but there was still a feeling of hope as Roy walked to the crease with Jeff Raby still in and looking solid as usual. After a few balls were sent flying over the painted white boundary line off the bat of Roy, he was clean bowled for a much needed 33. With Richie hungry for runs we were shore to be entertained, but after a couple good shots raced over the boundary he was bowled. Next man in Smarty, who walked to the wicket not realising he forgot his gloves, came in to see Jeff Raby reach his deserved 50. Jealousy might have set in as Smarty cracked one straight back at the bowler who got a lucky deflection onto the wickets and Jeff was stranded outside the crease.
Deano didn’t last long and was bowled without opening his account. With Mikie to come in next the innings looked to be coming to an end, little did they know Mikie and Smarty had different plans. After putting on a quick 56 partnership the young spinner was dismissed on 31. Jack came in to end the tail and between them added a further 68 runs to the total. After an attempted unorthodox shot off the last ball of the innings Mikie finished on 79 not out with the team reaching a respectable total of 246-9.
After watching the opposition dig into domino’s pizza while we crunched down on crusty tuna sandwiches it was our turn to take the field.
With a couple early wickets by mikie and some very economical bowling by dean the opposition under pressure. Gill and Rich stepped up to the plate and another couple wickets by Rich saw the hosts in trouble. Smarty came on only to claim a further 3 wickets with some crazy spin. All looked over as deans fielding skills created a run out.
With only the one wicket remaining skipper Nigel called on the secret weapon in the form of Jeff Raby who had much to say to dean who backed away from a catch as the ball allegedly came in line with the sun. Jeff got his wicket in the end as windlesham were all out for 98 runs.
Just when Dean thought his ball evading had been forgotten, Horney pulled out the fine of all fines and Dean was soon running around the field in a flattering green man-kini.
All and all a good day and good win.
