Fulham Taverners

Richmond Nomads opening game against Fulham Taverners was a reminder that you can’t have too much practice before the season starts. Playing at English Heritage's Chiswick House, the Nomads couldn't quite match up to the fantastic setting on a scorching bank holiday weekend.

Having lost the toss the Nomads were put into bat and lost their captain, Nigel Swain almost immediately. A communication mix up in the first over saw him run out by a country mile. The Nomads went on to score briskly with their top five batsmen all hungry for quick runs but the wickets fell steadily, A Shirley 15, R Elliott 16, R Swain top score with 26 and R Gupta 12. The Nomads were bowled out for 143.

The Fulham Taverners’ Moin and Prescott put on an impressive 70 opening partnership before Prescott was run out by some brisk fielding from the Nomads captain. Moin went on to score 69 before he was trapped in front of his wicket. Fulham Taverners only needed 20 overs to overhaul the Richmond Nomads total and did so with the loss of just four wickets. The pick of the bowlers for Richmond Nomads were D Moors and G Singh.
