BY THE MORSEMAN:
On the hottest day of the year so far, acting captain Morse lost the toss and to nobody’s surprise the Nomads were invited to take the field.
Mike Dippennar on debut, produced a lively opening spell, testing the Grouse & Label openers. Ably supported with the new ball by Roy “Sausage” Gupta, G & L struggled to reach 25-2 after the first eleven overs.
A period of consolidation was set about by G & L, with a fine partnership of 105 for the 3rd wicket with both batsmen making fifties. Naresh, Mahesh and Richie, all contributed to the stranglehold on the G & L batsmen, bowling accurately to keen fielding, despite the temperatures.
Sausage returned to mop up the innings finishing with fine figures of 4-48 at just over three runs per over, with Grouse & Label pegged to a total of 165.
Despite an early setback with the loss of Tuffers, The Rabbi and Dan “Shogun” Lamb, set about the G & L bowling with relish.
A partnership of 112 for the second wicket set the Nomads well on the way to their target before losing the Rabi for a fine innings of 57. Shogun who was “in the runs” both on and off the pitch owing to a stomach upset, made an excellent 72 not out. In partnership with Naresh,
Shogun saw the Nomads home with over ten overs to spare. Naresh with a display of destructive stroke play, was 22 not out at the close.
