2011-Season

Nomads collapse vs Egham Roses - 17th July 2011

BY DEANO:

A good fixture as always against Egham Roses at NPL on our Fizzy Pimms day. It was a good turn out with friends and family who bravely conquered the elements!

A group huddle and a team talk was the first thing on skippers mind with one word to say, 'CONSOLIDATE' not directed at anyone inparticular Richie or Roy.

After discovering the difference between kiddies stumps and big boy stumps Nomads were sent in to bat with Daisy and Tuffers leading the way.

After a quick few boundaries Daisy was dismissed for 13 and Tufers for 23. We then called upon the Rabbi and Naresh to score some runs but the swing of their bowler seemed very good with Rabbi for 12 and Naresh for 18.

With the score looking worying it was the time of Richie to step up and carry us through...with a quick single! and newly crowned Smarty gone for 6. With Roy at the crease we were bound to see some big shots, but an uncharacteristic straight bat saw the bails fly with a brilliant yorker by the bowler. Unlucky Mikey saw the middle of his bat only to find the middle of the fielders hands, the famous collapse struck again with the following batsman Morse and Deano gone for 0, and of course Jack was not out.

A poor score of 78 from the nomads, the decision was made to quickly get straight back out there and show off our fielding talent.

Deano and Mikey to open the bowling with an early wicket from Deano and some nice straight bowling from Mikey. The rain suddenly dropped on us and players fled to the clubhouse for tea.

After the break and clearer skies it was the 'turn' of Smarty with 2 brilliant wickets and more economical bowling from Roy, who was unlucky not to have a wicket with a nomadic dropped catch from the Rabbi, with the crowed booing and hissing! As dropped catches go by far the best was one of Richie. The young batsman as good as placed the ball in Roys hands but Richie decided to fly halfway across the pitch one handed only to drop the catch.

A mixture of spin and pace from Naresh got him a good 2 wickets, hit for just 2 runs. Richie came on to bowl after being refused the oppertunity to knock out a 9yr old previously and bowled well.

Although the Nomads fielded as good as ever the low score set, proved too low and Egham won and knocked off the score.

With the match lasting such a short time a quick '10-10' game was played with all players bowling!! Everyone contributed massivly and it was an enjoyable game.

Step forward master chef Horny who all day served drinks and nibbles to the adoring fans and put on a great day as usual!

The much anticipated raffle was drawn with a suprising amount of nomad winners. A memorable prize being Tuffers and his hanbag, pink suits you sir.

Yet another brilliant social event and a big thanks to all the organisers.

MOM: Deano
Nomads of the day: Horny and Tony
