BY RUSTY:
A cloudy but bright day at NPL matched two Nomads sides of Dads sprinkled with “lads” and Lads who were also Dads. Nigel won the toss for the Dads and chose to bat first on a seagull decorated pitch with a very short boundary on one side of the wicket.
After the loss of an early wicket, Daisy and Sausage came together, taking advantage of some generous fielding to put together a second wicket partnership of 131. Roy eventually fell to one of three catches to Esso for a lusty 55.
Biker Barry continued the carnage with his excellent footwork and timing bringing a quick-fire 19. Once Daisy fell for a patient 76, Vice-Captain Dishy came to the crease blasting a not so patient 63 containing eleven boundaries. Sabi contributed a composed 21 after threatening to hit every ball into the next county.
The Dads finally posted a total of 301 from their 35 overs, with Dixie, Amit and Shogun being the pick of the Lads bowlers taking two wickets each.
The Lads suffered a similar early loss like the Dads, bringing Arwel and Little Ritchie together which led to a partnership of 77, before Ritchie attempted one six too many, falling just short of his fifty.
Arwel however, continued to put the Dads bowling to the sword, despite the twin handicaps of being both left-handed and Welsh! Scoop was introduced to the attack and took 5-47 in two spells, tearing the heart out of the Lads reply and eventually accounted for Arwel who made an excellent 84. Scoop had to leave the field late on following a dislocated finger while attempting a catch on the boundary.
Sadly the best efforts to repair the disjointed digit by Doctor Horny failed, leading to an emergency dash to hospital. Back on the field, despite late efforts from Shogun and Amit, the Lads ended shy of the Dads total on a day where cricket and the Nomads were the winners.
